13-0! The Czechs demolished Great Britain in a U23 clash

After the first five minutes, the Czechs kicked tires on production as they scored four goals in ten minutes in the first period. After the first intermission, the hosts had no plans to honor the mercy rule and scored another five goals. In the third period, the scoring went down ever so slightly with Nicholas Langr's strike being the only one for the first almost seven minutes. A nasty hit on Jan Čejka forced the Czech forward out of the game due to a knee injury, however, he couldn't stay sour for long as his team added three more goals to demolish Great Britain 13-0.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Jiří Mašík (CZE): "We obviously wanted to start with a win. We knew we were expected to beat Great Britain, but we took a responsible approach to the game. Except for a few mishaps, we were playing the way we wanted. Since the beginning of the second period, we were stepping away from the net and started to utilize one-timers more often. We also wanted to try power-plays in a competitive game, and we converted pretty much all of them. Overall, we had a really good mindset. The only downside is Jan Čejka's injury. We don't know his current situation yet, I just hope he'll be able to be back soon."

Luke Browne (GBR): "It was never going to be an easy game against the reigning world champions. Every time you play the Czech Republic, you know what to expect. They’re big, they’re strong, they’re fast, they’ve got good shots from the point. On our end, there are things we could have shut down. I thought we gave away a lot of easy goals. A 13-0 scoreline is never the greatest thing, but when you look at the goals they scored, eight or nine of them were backdoor passes. That’s just one thing we need to work at going forward. I was really happy with the start. It was exactly as I expected it to be. I’ve got a lot of experienced guys who’ve played at the world junior and senior levels before. But unfortunately, the goals started coming. We collapsed a little bit but after that, I thought we handled the pressure quite well."
