Czechia Red U16 win gold!

The Czechs dominated the first period and took the lead eight seconds before the intermission when Marek Šťástka scored on a rebound. Canada equalized shortly after the break when a deflected shot bounced right in front of Nishaan Gill. Czechia Red regained the lead in the 28th minute thanks to Jakub Chán's laser-accurate shot to the near post. The Czechs controlled the game in the last period, fending off all Canadian attempts. Marek Fleischmann, in particular, shone as he made numerous near-impossible saves, winning the award for the best player of the game. Czechia Red beat Canada U16 2-1 and celebrate the gold medals at the home tournament!

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Jon Silcox (CAW): „Congratulations to the Czechs, they played a good game. Obviously, it’s not the result we wanted but I’m proud of my boys. I wouldn’t change anything, they did their best and put everything on the floor. We were tired and sometimes we would come up a little short. Can’t say much more right now. We are proud to represent our country and I am proud of the way we worked. We’ll just start again and hope for a better result next year. It hurts, the boys are devastated but I’m proud of them, they worked a lot. Thanks to Liberec for hosting the tournament and again, congrats for the Czechs."

Vít Čapek (CZR): „We entered the game actively, just like in the previous match. We stuck to our tactics. Yesterday, against the Slovaks, we received a wake-up call when we stopped playing at 2-0 and let the Slovaks come back into the game. But today, that didn't happen again; in a five-on-five situation, we were the better team. We allowed Canada to get back in the game a bit during the power play, but the team showed experience and managed to pull through. The boys deserve a big thanks. Congratulations to them, they earned it on the field."
