3rd July 2023 - Kryštof Havíř

Last-breath comeback brought Canada U18 two points!

The North American derby is always worth watching and this game was no exception. Canada started off better, taking a one-goal lead in the sixth minute. The USA came back in the second period, scoring two to make it 2-1. However, Chabot equalized a minute before the second intermission. In the final period, the Americans reclaimed the lead once again, and it looked like they will be taking the three points. But with the goalie pulled, a Canadian hero called Reeve Sukut tied the game with 47 seconds to go and subsequently scored the overtime winner fourteen seconds in, securing the win for Canada!

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Martin Davídek (CZE): „It was our first game, we entered with enthusiasm, there was a lot of movement. The game was officiated according to international rules, which we're not so accustomed to in Canada, so we'll have to adapt to that. The opponent took advantage of power plays, but we told the boys to stick to our plan. There was still plenty of time left, and in the end, we managed to turn it around, which we're happy about. We're looking forward to our next games.“

Edward Costa (USA): „I think we played well. We were a bit nervous at first, our powerplay was struggling. Then our assistant coach Will McKeen came to me and wanted to change things up. We did that and got three goals on the powerplay, so we really have to thank him, he made great adjustments for us and it showed in the game. I think we have to make a few more adjustments and we’ll be fine..“
