Czech U20 Jan Becka: Magnificent tournament
Is the home World Championship the most significant thing that has happened to you in your ball hockey career so far?
Since this international tournament is now called the World Championship and not the World Cup or European Championship, it means a lot to me, and it is probably the most significant achievement I've accomplished in ball hockey.
Can you tell us how the national team's preparation for such a significant tournament is going?
The preparation is carried out both on camps and individually. During the camps, we focus on tactical aspects to experience them as much as possible. Then, it's up to each individual to prepare themselves to be in the best possible shape.
What do you think about the strength of the Czech team?
Our team has some potential. It may not be evident yet, but perhaps it will show as we get used to each other. There will be a few more camps before the World Championship, so we'll try to prepare ourselves as well as possible to achieve the best possible result.
How difficult is it for you to fight for a spot in the lineup?
It's a struggle, but it's beautiful. Just being at the national team camps and fighting for my spot is great.
What is the Czech team focusing on during the camps?
From the first camp, we're focusing on the style of play that we want to present at the World Championship. Intensive training is designed accordingly, including exercises for quick transition to offense or defending the neutral zone.
The World Championship will be in a home environment. Do you see it as an advantage, or will you be more restricted by fans and spectators who come to watch?
Maybe it will be an advantage. Each player perceives it differently. I hope that many people will come to make it difficult for the other teams.
Can you tell us your prospects for the Liberec World Championship?
It will be magnificent. I'm looking forward to a sold-out arena. I also believe in a nice success for the Czech team.
