What will be the goals of Canadian U-16 boys according to their coach Jon Silcox?

Canadian U16 team coach Jon Silcox talked about the team's goals for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship in Liberec. "We will be fast and very tenacious," he said.

How challenging was it for you and your colleagues to assemble the final roster for the 2023 ISBHF World Junior Championship in Liberec? Selections are always difficult.
We have many great ball hockey teams throughout the country, and our ball hockey programs are growing rapidly. Training is becoming more competitive and intense, so we see significant improvements in personal and team skills.

How did you select the right players for your team? Were you looking for players who have specific skills where the team would focus on playing specific styles? Or are you relying on the individual abilities of your players?
The most important thing is to trust the staff, scouts, and any evaluations made. It is important to continually evaluate and monitor the performance of individual players to determine if they can fulfill their roles in the world event. It is also essential to choose roles for all players so that they know what is expected of them. You have 12 people who want to score goals. This may mean that many important parts are missing in transition play. Being a hero is not always about scoring goals, but it can be good defense or a blocked shot. Having such players on the team is necessary.

How is your team's preparation going so far? What are you focusing on? Is it about tactics or building your players' athletic abilities, such as speed and endurance? What are your team's strengths?
Currently, we are mainly focusing on strengthening the team spirit and getting to know each other. Our players are from all over the country, so they participate in their own training plans. I believe that when the time comes to travel to Liberec, our team will be ready. We will be fast and very tenacious.

There will be no easy opponents at the tournament. What do you expect from the other participants?
I expect that every game will be a battle. European countries are always prepared and have great talent, and it will be exciting.

What are your ambitions for the tournament? Do you want to win a medal? What are you willing to sacrifice for a medal?
I believe that this life-changing trip to Liberec must be a huge goal for all players. Representing your country is not an everyday occurrence. The team should enjoy this experience and make the most of their time preparing overseas. As for the medal, yes, we are Team Canada, and I think every time we step onto the international stage, we sacrifice everything to win a medal.

Overall, how excited are you for the tournament? What is the mood like in your team?
Everyone is excited, we are charged up and ready to go. The guys are counting down the days!
