Jenni Simpson: It’s a big deal for me to be here with the team

The Canadians started the tournament with a victory over the Slovaks. One of the key figures in the win was Jenni Simpson, who scored the winning goal and recorded one assist.

What did you think about the game?

I must say that the Slovakian team came out and played really hard and well, but we stuck to our system and managed to win in the end. Overall we are satisfied, it was a good game.

You scored the game-winning goal to make it 2–1. Would you say that was the key moment of the game?

I think all the goals we scored really helped us and gave us a boost in our motivation. It definitely felt nice to score though. It was from a rebound, so I couldn't have done it with my teammates. Everyone on my team worked really hard.

You were named the best player of the match. How happy are you with your performance?

Really happy. It’s a big deal for me to be here with the team and to be able to represent Canada. It feels really nice.

It was your first game of the tournament, was it hard to get going?

Not really. There was a lot of hype in the dressing room. Our coaches, captain, and assistant captains are really good at getting us hyped up for the game. It was just a lot of all-around good motivation.

How do you like it here in the Czech Republic?

It is really beautiful. All the people here are so nice. The traffic is a bit different though, but overall it is really pretty.

You’ll face the home side in the next game, what are your anticipations for this match?

I am expecting a lot of cheering from the home fans, but I think we’ll keep our heads, play our game and do our best to win.
