Press release: Samuel Hrivík of Slovakia U20 suspended for two games
After careful consideration and assessment of the available information, the Disciplinary Board has reached a decision concerning the actions of player number 61, Samuel Hrivnák from Team Slovakia U20.
During the overtime, player Samuel Hrivnák intentionally executed a deliberate kick to the head of an opposing defenseless player who was lying on the floor, without any provocation. This act of aggression and complete disregard for the safety of another player is a clear violation of the principles and values that the ISBHF upholds, including fair play, respect, and sportsmanship. The head kick to the opponent was not punished by the referees and significantly affected the development of the match. There should have been a Match Penalty on the floor. A 5 minutes powerplay would have given the opponent an advantage. The situation got even worse, as all the audience in the arena saw the incident, as the match was live TV broadcasted and it caused a huge echo in our ball hockey community.
However, potential penalties are not subject of a video review according to the ISBHF Rules, nor Regulations for this tournament. Otherwise, it would have been called a match penalty and 5 minute power play for team Czechia U20 in overtime. See rule 535 in the ISBHF Rulebook.
Considering the gravity of the incident and the potential danger it posed to the player's well-being, the fact the player who committed this foul is a team captain (who shall be a true leader of sportsmanship and fair-play in the team), and all aspects mentioned above, the Disciplinary Board has decided to suspend player Samuel Hrivnák for a period of two games. Additionally, this suspension will be transferable to the next ISBHF official event if the player is nominated to participate.
This decision is intended to send a clear message that such reckless and dangerous behavior has no place in our sport. The safety and welfare of our players are of utmost importance, and it is essential that all individuals associated with the ISBHF uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play.
